Graffiti Investigation by MPD

Over the past several months, the Maricopa Police Department has identified a trend in graffiti through out the City of Maricopa.
In connection with an extensive investigation, the Maricopa Police Department has identified four suspects who have been directly involved in much of this graffiti (Criminal Damage). The graffiti incidents have taken place primarily in three subdivisions, on the Duke Golf course and on property belonging to the City of Maricopa. The suspects included three adults and one juvenile. The total damage for repairs and clean up of the graffiti has been extensive.
The investigation is ongoing and the MPD is working to file charges in connection with these cases.
We encourage all city residence to beware of and report all graffiti as soon as possible. The Maricopa Police Graffiti Hotline is available 24 hours a day at 520 316-6900. If you witness graffiti in progress please call 9-1-1.

MPD Officer Involved in Collission

At about 09:44 AM a Maricopa Police Officer was conducting a traffic stop at Smith-Enke and Vintage Rd. in the City of Maricopa. As the Officer returned to his vehicle in preparation to clear the traffic stop his police vehicle was struck from behind by an SUV. The officer was transported to a trauma center by ground ambulance with significant injuries. The driver of the SUV received minor injuries to her face and her toddler age passenger was unhurt.
The Department of Public Safety is conducting an investigation into the vehicle collision.
Update:On June 8, 2009, at approximately 9:45 am, Maricopa Police Officer Andy Leach was conducting a traffic stop on Smith-Enke Rd, just west of Vintage in the City of Maricopa. A preliminary investigation has revealed Officer Leach had just returned to his patrol vehicle after issuing a citation and was waiting for the vehicle he had stopped to pull away when his vehicle was struck from behind by an SUV. The collision pushed Officer Leach and his vehicle approximately 200 feet from the point of impact. His vehicle came to rest in the curb lane and the SUV came to rest blocking the other. Read more

Arena Sports Grill Offers Free Entertainment with Maricopa Idol Singing Competition

Maricopa, Ariz. (June 6, 2009) - Maricopa residents going through withdrawals now that this season of American Idol is over won’t have to wait until January to get their fix of talented singers. Starting Saturday, June 6, they can witness the first Maricopa Idol at Arena Sports Grill. Residents can choose to compete or just enjoy the music and a full bar.
The show starts at 10 p.m. each week, with the finals to be held July 25. For seven Saturdays in a row, aside from a break on Fourth of July weekend, Maricopans can watch or take part in the competition. Those that compete have a shot at winning $1,000 in cash and prizes while showing their city that they can really sing. Those who choose to watch have a chance to relax and enjoy some good, live music while meeting fellow Maricopans and taking advantage of drink specials.

Motorcyclist Crashes in Santa Rosa Wash, Flown to Trauma Center

Maricopa, Ariz. (May 30, 2009) Maricopa man lucky to survive motorcycle accident after he crashes his bike while riding through the Santa Rosa wash without a helmet on. The 34 year old male suffered extensive injuries to one of his legs and was flown by helicopter to Maricopa Medical Center for further evaluation and treatment.
The accident occurred under the railroad bridge in the wash and the patient was found by two people who heard his screams for help as they walked through the wash.

Walmart Brings Savings to Maricopa

MARICOPA, Ariz., May 15, 2009 – The new Walmart in Maricopa will celebrate its grand opening this week, bringing the community hundreds of jobs, support for local organizations and Walmart’s unbeatable prices on a full line of groceries and general merchandise. Off the Cuff: Editorial

So last night I went to my second school board meeting. PHEW it was a long one. But I left with a better understanding of JUST how messed up MUSD really is.
Now, let me clarify, there are 4 schools in this district that are over performing. Leaps and bounds above the rest, and every year the performance from the remaining schools continues to rise, but where we have struggled in the past we are still struggling.
Special Education in the City of Maricopa has finally been brought into compliance, yet we are STILL 20+ teachers short of where we need to be. IEP’s aren’t being completed, and some are WAY past due. We as a community need to step up and support our school board members who last night made a stand for the SPE.ED department. Moving forward I would like to see them being that adamant about ALL issues involving the district. Read more
